  • Currency was supposed to be backed by both gold and silver. Around that time (1934) there was a big debate on what was called "bi-metallism." In the end, currency came to be backed by gold only. This is supposedly what The Wizard of Oz parallels. There are bits of symbolism peppered through out the entire story. The original slippers were in fact silver. Useless info I know, but interesting none the less.
  • You just have a $10 silver certificate. A $10 bill from 1934 just like mine. Yours was printed not long before mine. Yours is series A and starts with A. Mine is series A and starts with B. There isn't much special about it except for the date unless it is like uncirculated or something. I bought mine for $60 and mine is EF condidtion so now you have sort of a ball park estimate of what it might be worth depending on the condition it's in.
