Question

Help answer this question below.

If its against the rules to ask for points, wouldn't it then be against the rules to ask for "downratings"? And if you get down ratings, the question should be rejected and you should get those points back. Right?

Actually, yes... It's against the rules to ask for points, positive or negative. ;-) (Clarified by Rich somewhere... LOL)

- But no... I don't think you get the points back. Positives don't go away, anyway. The points are ONLY for the question ranking, so any positives would still count, the negatives don't.

Sure. Because the type of content that 'asks for downrates' is usually spam, offensive, or nonsense.

- Nonsense either is not a question or does not answer the question. Offensive is typically breaking the terms of service and violating conditions, such as making inflammatory remarks about other users or otherwise inappropriate material. All content that is flagged is approved or rejected by the administrator before the content is finally removed. It's not "JUST" questions when someone asks something awful about you...

Why would someone ask for downratings? I don't even get why it's against the rules to ask for points. It's not like this is a big contest and if I get more points than you I get all the money, right? But, yeah, I see what you're saying.

Well, I don't honestly know Chris. You could try it and find out. I have never given a DR to anyone so I can't help you out here. I think they're silly and the people that give them are even sillier. Do you guys think answerbag should hold a competition for answering questions to like trivial pursuit? they ask a question and the first like ten people get points for answering. They do a question an hour for one week and see who has the most points?
