Though I am increasing my water intake significantly, I still tend to develop a lot of mucus. Is there any type of remedy for this and is aggressive and constant clearing of the throat at all hazardous to the voice?

During speech therapy I learned that the #1 irritant to your vocal chords is clearing your throat. In response to the irritation, your vocal chords produce more mucus--but flecks of dry mucus on the chords is what makes you want to clear your throat.

The proposed solution is to drink more water, which you have already done, and swallow hard rather than clear your throat.

This and other strategies helped me get over a chronic sore throat. Sorry I can't tell you what they were, but I can't fit a thousand dollars worth of lessons onto Answerbag.com.

Something to cut the phlegm eg. a drink of citrus juice is a good idea. Clearing the throat loudly and aggressively only makes it worse and makes people around you want to throttle you (even if they are too polite to say so)
