There is lots of local radio to choose from - and most of it can be heard online so even if you're not within broadcasting distance, you can listen. I'm not including stations that fall under the Clear Channel or Radio One umbrella, here. WXYC - 89.3FM, Chapel Hill - UNC-Chapel Hill's college radio station. Freeform format with some "theme" shows. www.wxyc.org WSHA - 88.9FM, Raleigh - Shaw University's non-commercial radio station, jazz and blues format with NPR news updates. Features Friday afternoon drivetime "Funk Friday" that is guaranteed to get you jammin'. www.wshafm.org WNCU - 90.7, Durham - NC Central University's jazz & information radio station, local news, jazz and blues format with NPR news updates. Weekend programs shift between hip-hop and doo-wop to reggae and be-bop. www.wncu.org WXDU - 88.7, Durham - Duke Univ college radio station, progressive alternative format. www.wxdu.org WKNC - 88.1, Raleigh - NC State's college radio station, features rock, hip-hop and electronica shows. www.wknc.org WUNC - 91.5, Chapel Hill - The NPR station/public radio station, features mostly syndicated shows but there are a couple of local features that appear. www.wunc.org WCPE - 89.7, Wake Forest - non-commercial, independent classical music station. www.wcpe.org
