I'm a bit of a cordless phone fanatic and have had a lot of different ones over the years. While they vary model to model, in general I've had good luck with Panasonic. If you want the best sound range/sound quality, get one that is DECT 6.0. If you have a wireless home network, avoid 2.4 Ghz phones since they can interfere. Careful; some 5.8Ghz phones are actually only 5.8Ghz one way and 2.4Ghz the other way. As long as they are 5.8Ghz both ways, you'll be fine with a wireless network. For a specific recommendation, I'd say the Panasonic KX-TG1034S. It comes with 4 phones, is DECT 6.0 and you can get it for $114 at Newegg.
