Depends on the model. I would take a BMW M3 over all Audi's other than the R8, which I would see as a tie.

BMW stands for "BE MY WHEELS", AUDI is a mispelling of the German word, "Auto".

Seriously, BMW in the past...AUDI has now gained some recognition, but BMW has such a good history, stay with what you know, not a flash in the pan.

My partner just put in an order for an Audi S5. It is not going to be delivered till January. They are really rare here in Colorado and all over the country. It is a beautiful car! His other choice was the new M3. Both are great cars, but the S5 is all wheel and a bit less expensive. Plus it has the great looking LED daytime running lights. All in all the cars are fine examples of German engineering, however, the S5 is rarer here and will definitely get the looks.

Overpriced German trash.  Not for me.

      I'll take a Hyster.

You know what the difference is between a cactus and a BMW?  The cactus has the pricks on the outside.

Shopping for condiments should be a breeze. Need mayo? For most of us, Hellmann's is all we're looking for. Ketchup? You really don't need anything other than Heinz.

Sales figures tells us that for many entry-level luxury-sedan buyers, the choice is similarly easy: why look beyond BMW's 3 Series? In the first three quarters of this year, the 3 Series outsold two excellent competitors, Audi's A4 and DaimlerChrysler's (nyse: DCX - news - people ) Mercedes- Benz C-Class by almost 2-to-1 each in the U.S.

The slide show that follows compares the 3 Series with the A4; overhauled models of each vehicle went on sale this year. We knew the 3 Series is considered the gold standard in its class but were surprised to find how convincingly it trounces the excellent A4 in sales performance, even though the Audi has a lower MSRP. Other brands compare favorably with BMW and Audi, but no automaker could say it knows more about building great sedans than those two.

Tricky to say. In reality there's very little to choose between them in terms of handling or performance (on comparable models obviously).
I guess the key thing now is that BMW used to be the cock-mobile supreme, & now the title has been passed to Audi..... which is a shame cos I would have chosen Audi.

I prefer an R8 over a M6. R8 is really the only Audi I really like, but BMW has some nice cars for a more affordable price than the M6.
