  • Look at the CV joints, especially the outer ones. They clunk quite nicely if worn, though that clunk starts out as a gentle knock.
  • If the car is front wheel drive or AWD, and the noise is most noticable when turning, a CV shaft is the likely culprit. If the car is not FWD or AWD, or if the noise is present while driving, and goes away when you use the brakes, then the problem is more likely to be with the recent brake installation. Probabilities include forgotten anti-rattle clips on the pads, missing or loose caliper mounting pins or bolts, or even improperly tightened lug nuts.
  • Check your calipers, this happened to me and it was just a bad caliper.
