Common sense? sounds a bit preachy to me, do you fancy having a baby chewing the hell out of your sore nipples that have swelled three times the size...i've been told by many mums they wont do it anymore because of the pain!

Well for a start many women dont produce enough milk for their babies, and the baby is constantly hungry. Also you cannot monitor the amount a baby drinks from the breast the way you can with a bottle. Apart from that its painful, the mother gets no sleep as she is up most of the night nursing the baby, where if a baby is on a bottle the father can take a turn feeding the child to let the mother rest.. i could go on and on here!!! There are hundreds of reasons why a woman might not breastfeed. Also - believe it or not - some fathers enjoy feeding their children and actually want to help with a new baby... so its not always down to common sense.

I think they don't because being pregnant isn't chic anymore. The birthdate is planned and a cesarian is more common than ever - even without medical indication. And changing your life around that of a child is unthinkable anyway. So how could one expect to feed it "the old way". But I have no doubts that in 20 years' time we will have found out that all those basic and natural things are WAY better than what we in our great wisdom thought would be smarter and more advanced than what evolution came up with. In the grand scheme of the human race it will make no difference. For those few generations affected: sad for them.

Hi Freddy. I know I'll get down rated too, but I agree with you. I'm 36 and I've had 4 daughters, and nursed them all for 1 year each. It was challenging at times, but my kids are healthy, have never had gas/cholic or ear infections. They switched right from breast milk to vitamin D milk at 12 months. As far as fathers wanting to help with a new baby, my hubby bought me a breast pump so I could express milk and he could give them bottles to give me a rest. I think that today's society doesn't have the same "stick-to-it-ivness" as they should. My girls are the smartest in their class as well as the most athletic. I would recommend breast feeding to all mom's. Wish I could give you more points...+4

It's becasue common sense has been thrown out the window long ago. Most mothers I know don't know they were perfectly capable of breastfeeding "Supply issues" - "Latch issues" - "It hurt" - "baby would sleep longer with formula" - "Formula is just as good" Women today have been made to beleive that they cannot do what thier bodies were designed for. The general public needs some serious education on breastfeeding.

It may seem as black and white as that, but often times it isn't. I breastfed my son for four months, and was unable to do so without supplementing with bottles. I returned to work when he was 6 weeks and TOLD my boss (I did not ask) that I would need to pump at work every day. My boss was fine with this. Even though I had one of the best pumps on the market, I was not able to get more than 3-4oz of expressed breastmilk. This was not enough for one meal of my son. After four months, I was barely expressing 2 oz, and had to switch completly to formula.

I believe Freddy got taken off the teet too soon and now has some "issues" about breast-feeding. No other rational explanation exists for his vehemence about womens' choices of whether to breast-feed or provide alternative sources of nutrition for their infant.
