I have a co-signer for a car I purchased. How hard will it be to have them taken off as a co-signer if I payed off my debt and have established good credit?

thanks for your answers. but what i'm thinking of is improving my credit with credit breaus. will I still need to have co-signer. or what can I do to not have co-signer? It's only been five months and I would like to clean up my credit and try this on my own. any suggestions would be great. and I would love to take my co-signer out to dinner and thank her for helping. and explaining that they would be no longer obligated.

You are on the right track. having a co-signer and paying the car in full, should establish you as creditworthy. the co-signer is no longer needed and has no further obligation on your paid in full automobile.

As a gesture of thanks, i would drive my co-signer, in my fully paid automobile, to a nice restaurant and buy him/her dinner.

Once the debt is paid the role of the cosigner is terminated.
