Should people, owning a low miles per gallon vehicle, like 8 to l0 mpg, pay more for gasoline?

    No they should not.

    I have a VW Jetta and it is low kms/litre of gas. But it costs more than the average similar sedan with a higher rate of kms/litre.

    There are two things to consider. First of all the owner is paying more money for the car with lower km/litre and second of all the owner is making a smart buying decision. I don't think that one should be penalized for either of those things.
