Why do people think of poverty and disease when they think of africa when there are parts of africa that are not that poor and are beautiful... with beatiful people!

Cuz that's what the news reports. Wars generally escalate the worst in poorer areas(which get covered the most) disease, etc. Now all the chill Masai and other tribes and peoples kickin it and being happy just doesn't make for an exciting headline. They're lucky if they get some mention on the discovery channel. Now myself, I am so immersed in cheetah land that it's all I think about when I think of Africa :)

When I think of poverty and disease I think of third world countries with low GDP. Outside of Northern and Southern Africa, the rest of the countries are pretty damn poor. That is not to say that the people aren't great, or that the countries aren't gorgeous, or even that they are not happy - it just means that they are poor.
