  • Are you kidding? Is there any question about whether he should be paid? Who would be crass enough to offer the money?
  • Don't know this person but was he found guilty of anything. If not yes he should be paid. Not every person is a terrorist in this world.
  • It would be better than giving the money to the Americans. You honestly believe that he's part of international terrorism? This is ridiculously mainstream.
  • In this society, nothing would surprise me...
  • David Hicks, an Australian, is a former detainee that was picked up in Afghanistan after the invasion of that country in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. He received a significant amount of training at the various al Qaeda-linked camps. In a letter he admitted to participating in the violence that wracks the Kashmir region. He was also in Australia at the time of the 9/11 attacks and chose to return to Afghanistan to fight along side the Taliban afterwards. It was during this time that he was captured and then shipped to Guantanamo. Hicks did ultimately plead guilty to providing support to a terrorist organization. Now Hicks is claiming that he was tortured while in US custody. How much credence to give these allegations will be a matter of debate. However, keep in mind that al Qaeda has been known to instruct their people to lie about their treatment if they get caught. Additionally, Hicks, being a westerner, would know just what to say in order to get the most sympathy. Should Hicks be paid for his story? I don't think so. How do we know some of the proceeds will not go back into terrorism? I don't think that we do.
  • Yes he should be paid.
