  • hi I've read it many times before but to corroborate it, I recently saw a repeat of the BBC's Richard Attenborough programme 'the Life of Birds'. He said the pergrine falcon was the fastest bird and that when stooping (i.e.diving with wings folded in) on another bird for a kill it could reach around 240KM/hr or 150 m.p.h. Even if these numbers are exaggerated that still makes it the fastest animal in the world by a long way. Other falcons and hawks must be close behind and all faster than any land or sea animal. Fastest land animal is the cheetah - 96 KM/hr or 60 m.p.h. Fastest sea animal - there maybe a tie between a few - this is not a precise list but should suffice: Shortfin Mako, Black Marlin, other Marlin and Sailfish all around 64KM/hr or 40 m.p.h. rgds Mike
