  • I've been selling casually on ebay. If you are just selling your own household goods then it is not a business, so no tax, at least in the UK It is time and trouble, but you can turn trash into cash. Just make sure you get postage and packing right or you can make a loss
  • Ebay is only good if you have a huge amount of stuff. I'm talking in the tons. Otherwise you won't turn a huge prophet. I sold at least 400-500 books on ebay. Or attempted to. Most of what I had were best sellers, things most people would read, not just page filler shit. Unless your selling in bulk than no one will buy (bulk being 10+ at once) because postage can often cost from $3-$30 depending on how it's sent, so it really doesn't make sense to buy used if it's going to cost more and take longer than to just go to the store.
  • Something my wife did a few years ago was to buy a complete set of Saladmaster cooking utensils and sold them on E-Bay as individual items. The profit was quite good. She also went to a fabric Mill and purchased large quantities of different kinds of printed fabrics, with popular prints like Strawberry Shortcake, Curious George, Spiderman and some other ones and sold them by the yard. Also, there was good profit. Not something big like a new Microsoft, but it was OK and kept her busy. You have to take it as a profitable hobby.
