You're reading To the 30% of America that still supports the war in Iraq, I have a question. Would you be willing to support the war fiscally, and just leave the rest of us (the ones who don't believe in unjustified wars) out of paying the trillion dollar bill?

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Public education is something that HAS had use for you, or else you would not be typing this. If programs that benefit EVERYONE were funded by tax dollars that you cannot decide on, and let us decide where the rest goes, this country would find their priorities shifting a great deal.
by Keysha on March 19th, 2008
And who decides what programs benefit EVERYONE? I mean, there are a lot of programs that some POLITICIAN WITH A PERSONAL AGENDA decided benefits everyone that benefits me not at all. Affirmative Action is a good example.
by Anonymous on March 19th, 2008
By the numbers. If more than 75% of the people in the United States uses, has used, or will use it significantly in their lifetime, it is a public benefit.
by Keysha on March 19th, 2008
And what of those 25% who will NEVER use it? They shouldn't have to pay for something they never use.
Under your definition, nothing would change.

You are trying circular arguments. You asked how the programs would be decided. Under that simple formula, the top four places for funding would be social security, health care, education, and public works, like police, firemen, and road commissions. The four most UNDERFUNDED of all.

Affirmative action is a bad thing?
.
AdmiralSirJohn, have you ever been discriminated against?
.
I have.
.
My people are not part of affirmative action... we are ignored. I would LIKE to have us be part of any efforts to stop the bigotry against us but that is not going to happen.
.
The only reason I can think of that you would NOT support affirmative action is that you have never faced discrimination and do not care about those of us who have.
.
That must be nice.
by Arisztid on March 19th, 2008
I have been discriminated against specifically BECAUSE of affirmative action.

... then come back and complain about how bad you have it. Please pay attention to the job issue. I have been turned down for more jobs than I can count just because I am a Gypsy. They get a hard look in their face and you know you do not have the job.
.
I know of someone who was fired within a day of admitting to being 1/4 Gypsy. A friend of his quit over it and the boss taunted her about supporting his "filthy friend". This happened less than a week ago.
by Arisztid on March 19th, 2008
... her "filthy friend" I mean.
.
I know of someone who worked at a gas station for a long time. A couple of Gypsy women came in and he was chatting with them.
.
The boss asked if he knew them. He told the boss that they were his cousins. The boss asked what HE was... he said he was a Gypsy.
.
The boss said he did not need to come to work tomorrow. The guy said "ok, I could use a day off". The boss said to never come back again.
.
Need I go on? I could fill you with these stories, both my personal ones and those of my friends.
.
Oh, all of this goes on in AMERICA.
