You can burn more than 1000 calories a day through exercise. I'm a 32 year old figure skater and do this each time I skate (I do jumps & spins) for at least an hour and a half. You will need to burn at least 3,500 calories to lose one lb. of fat. Most important is your reason for wanting to burn through this many calories in a day. Are you an athlete, are you currently exercising at all, or are you doing this just to fit into a certain outfit or for a date?

You can safely burn about 800 calories while swimming, about the same (& even more) if you're a competitive figure skater who jumps and spins, running is also a good way to burn more than 500 calories in an hour, jumping rope is excellent to burn 600+ calories hourly however, I'd recommend doing this on a mini trampoline to save/cushion your knees, ankles, and back from the pounding.

You also need to mix cardio with some weightbearing or weightlifting exercises to get definition, I've seen people lose lots of weight without focusing on building muscle & end up with cellulite that actually looks SEVERAL times worse! Be safe, start off slowly, drink water BEFORE you're thirsty and DON'T starve yourself. Further, take breaks if you need them, pride can get you hurt or land you in a hospital so don't be stubborn. Better yet, make sure you see a doctor before you start.

It is safe as long as you are properly hydrating and fueling your body for that amount of exercise.

Make sure you eat a healthy variety of foods, and eat enough to cover those calories burned during exercise.

Also, a trip to the doctor is always advised before doing starting any exercise plan - so that they can make sure they don't see any reason your body can't handle the exertion. They can also help you out with your nutrition needs.

Yeah, it is safe, but remember, you're suppose to have 1,500 calories a day if you're female and 1,800 if you're a male. So you have to eat about 3000 calories a day to burn off 1000, you lose weight also while you sleep, around 400 for an 8 hour sleep. It sounds wrong I know, our bodys are strange contraptions, but that's how it works.

    So

    3000
    -1500 =
    1,500.

If you were to eat 500 calories and then burn off 1000, your body would freak out and put itself into "starvation mode" meaning it will pack the next food you put into your system as fat. (You don't want this). Make sure the 3,000 calories you eat are hearty meats, vegetebles, fruits and milk. All that good stuff. No fatty foods like KFC chicken or Big Macs. You don't eat those types of calories, no one does.

What you will notice about this type of weight loss, is that you will gain muscle very substantionally with this much working out. If you REALLY need to lose weight, the way to do it is something like Turbo Jam, or Kickboxing routines, just cardio excersize and adding strength excersizes to it aswell every 3-5 days. Consult your doctor if you have any serious health problems and take it easy.

Don't over work yourself and goodluck!
