  • Possibly because Americans have realized most churchs don't ask money for charity but for themselves and their needs.
  • From what I personally found is that some pastors and the like have taken their title and allowed it to go to their heads. I disagree with ANY pastor, priest or the like to drive around in Cadillac Escalades and have million dollar homes when they are nothing more than a pastor (or whatever). There is absolutely NO REASON they need to have items like that. If the churches would give to the needy more people needing God would come forward.
  • Great question. It's just easier. We generally are a lazy ego-centric society. What's in it for us is the new mantra we use to guide our daily lives. It's sad because it is 180 degrees from what Jesus wants from us.
  • Look at the letters to the Seven Churches in the Book of Revelation. They sum up the condition of churches for all time. Some are blind, some are apathetic, some are tolerating sin in their midst, but there are those which are willing to change and keep their eyes on Jesus.
  • I don't know of any churches that keeps their doors locked.
  • But to answer you question---it is not our standard to judge what is dead and what is alive. If a small church is saving souls and adding life to its community it is alive---doesn't matter the size or the song--only the heart that is true to God.
  • I think that this view is only partially true, brother. The denominational church's here in America are dead or dying; mostly true. But we must be careful to realize that the "church" in the Biblical sense is not a denomination or building. It is Christ's body; the body of those who worship Him in spirit and in truth. He promised that the gates of hell could not prevail against us! Also remeber that no matter how bleak the picture gets here in the US (and I fear it could get very dark very soon) that God always has a remnant! We are alive and well so don't lose hope but press on towards what lies ahead!
  • materialism and publicity of course not everyone is like that.
  • Maybe people are questioning their faith. I don't know.
  • A lot of good answers here. Mine is this: Most churches are based on making you feel good about what you already know. Making you comfortable with your Christianity. We haven't been called to be complacent theologians. No one who does this is satisfied with their walk. They are always seeking more answers and more justification. Sometimes more debate or arguments. We are called to go unto all the world and preach the gospel (mark 16:15). When you get off your seat and start experiencing and giving, then you will be alive. That speaks for my wife and I and everyone I know who has become a 'happy' Christian. It speaks for the churches I know of that are alive.
  • denominations, assemblies, congregations, you mean?? the "church" is universally and spiritually Jesus "body",and HE only has ONE, and HE is the ONLY HEAD of it not a building.Church is not to be used in a MATERIAL SENSE.... I don't see them as asleep..I see them as not "TEACHING" what Christ and then the Apostles told them to TEACH in the BIBLE...and if people don't READ the TEACHINGS(gospel) they have NO WAY of KNOWING "THE WAY". They listen to MAN not God. In Revelations when Jesus is speaking to HIS CHURCHES (the saved, the called out) HE warns those that are ASLEEP ...There were 7 , read and you can see what HE tells them is gonna happen to them...
  • "It would be a godsend if the Church would suffer persecution today; she hasn't suffered it for hundreds of years. She is growing rich and lagging behind. Going back."-------Billy Sunday That quote from Billy Sunday sums up quite well why the churches are are sleeping, dying or dead. A virus has invaded the church today. It started out as a cold (apathy) but has mutated into an insidious destroyer called Apostasy. America is going to hell in a wheelbarrow while tens-of-thousands of dead churches all across America sit idle and do absolutely nothing about it. If you decide to look for a new church to attend and you pull up into the parking lot and see hearses parked outside the church instead of cars and see the Grim Reaper motioning for you to come in, leave as fast as you can. There has been no persecution in America and the Christians have grown fat and lazy spiritually. Also read about the Church of Sardis and Laodicea in Revelation. They describe the churches of today to a Tee. Just my take on it.
