Who would you prefer at the controls of your plane, a more experienced crew with thousands of flight hours or a better trained crew with fewer flight hours?

• Thanks for the answer. All pilots have minimum requirements and are trained to react the same way. Lately however, I've been noticing that some newer pilots have had different training than me, some more thorough, others... I have to wonder.

• I dont know much about this subject but, you cant just down the ones with fewer hours. Ok look at doctors, they have to do training. So yeah most people want a doctor who has been doing it for a long time. eventually they wont be working anymore. then what happens. The person with fewer expeirence takes over. So I look up to the ones with fewer hours cause they have to deal with a lot more then the others. They also have to find respect.

• My opinion: 40,000 flight hours of routine flight without incident is no replacement for good training. Routine flight doesn't teach you how to react to situations like violent wake turbulence, an engine failure, or especially flight control failures. Think about it, you may know how to fly that plane and have a lot of experience doing it, take away the flight controls and you revert to training.

• http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19911227-0 read the description of this accident. At the bottom, note the contributing factors - these guys could have thousands of hours in the MD-81 but guess what would have prepared them for this one.
