I would have to think that would be a good idea, but it may sound difficult for now. Right now, we have the termination process called the nuke, which will oblirate the entire account. However, it has been said that links are still been able to be recovered after the nuke, and the member search still appears. Maybe if they were to get rid of the accounts on a permanent basis, the staff may need to come up with a different program to take care of this problem. But for now, the staff would just stick with the nukes.

I think that is a good idea. Most other, if not all, websites offer users the option to permanently delete their own accounts. I don't entirely agree with the current notion that everything I write, once posted, belongs to Answerbag. Granted, I haven't read the entire legal statement, but what I write belongs to ME and I should be able to remove or edit it when I want. Just my thoughts.

that would seem complicated. but i would like to be able to delete questions that i've asked whether i'm deleting my account or not. good question :)

It has been done before on a need to do basis. Even Auntie Em had her account totally nuked. There was no trace of here anywhere.

No... Questions have been answered. If they are valid questions, they should remain on the site. If the user answer questions with good valid answers (or opinions), THEY should remain on the site. Removing comments leaves a strange comment thread - see http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/459672 . Auntie Em, mentioned in Firebrand's answer, had a number of comments here, and they've been removed. See how it makes NO sense, now? The comments should be surgically removed - Those that are actually offensive that is. All others should remain. This may take a few more staff moderators to do it, but valid questions, answers and comments should remain, even if they're "anonymous" and the default avatar, now. Personally, I think they should be marked a different way... maybe the name changed to "xxxxxxxxx" and the avatar a nuclear bomb blast, so it's KNOWN that the account was good, the questions are still good, the answers are still good, but something happened, causing the staff to nuke the account. It would also help differentiate those who actually signed on as anonymous, and those who were MADE anonymous.

yes. At least to remove comments. I put up some information there that is causing me damage in my business. i have to have that removed. I am filing suit against them in order to get it removed or collecting damages.

Absolutely they should. I don't care what notices or contracts they put up here, still the right of privacy supercedes any written contract. It is a God-given right as guarenteed under the constitution and is a maxim of law.
