Would an all-out battle to the death between representatives of all religions be a sure way to tell whose God reigns supreme? Presumably those whose God carries them through the battle to victory would clearly prove that theirs is the one true God?

This is the kind of simplistic thinking that was prevalent during the days of the Sumerians, Babylonians and most definitely when the concept of a monotheistic creator deity was first envisioned. And no, it merely shows that humans prefer belief to reality, even down to killing for belief.
