  • It should be like every other car. You should be able to access the headlight assembly from under the hood. Look for your headlight casing and directly behind the beam should be the light bulb and fixture. You can twist the fixture until it is unlocked then pull out the bulb. Then simply pull out the bulb and replace it and twist lock the fixture and close your hood.
  • Actually, you'll probably need to take it to a dealer. Why? Because for some reason, Voltswagon made it that way. We have a Golf, which, frankly, is the same as a GTI except for the engine. We had to do just that, and the dealer confirmed it. There are a lot of little things like that on these cars. So just find your nearest dealer.
  • (this is for the dims) Both of these are wrong. It took me about 10 minutes to change them, you do not need to take it to a dealership. Start off with the passenger side headlight. There is a plastic plate behind the headlight with a long metal wire clip holding it in place. Slide the clip off to the side and remove the plastic plate. Inside you will see the back of the bulb with a wire plug going into the back of it. Gently unclip the plug. There is another metal wire clip holding the headlight bulb in place. You must gently push the clip towards the headlight assembly and slightly downwards to unhook it. Swing it back and remove the bulb. Place the new bulb in (w/o touching the bulb itself!). It can only go in one way and there is no twisting needed. Once in, swing the metal wire clip back into place (you will need to apply a little pressure for it to go back onto its hooks). Replace the plug into the back of the headlight bulb and voila. The driver side one is a little more tricky because the battery is in the way. Unscrew the piece of plastic with the bulb picture on it. Open the top of the plastic battery casing and remove the U shaped piece of plastic from between the battery and the headlight housing. Then you will have access to the bulb, same as before but a little trickier due to less room.
