Why are the Warriors associated with a state rather than a city? Why aren't they the "Oakland Warriors" since they play in Oakland?

    What happens is a rich person decides to enter a team in the nba if he has enough money and is aloud (or he buys a team) and he calls it what he wants. He probably just wanted to be more specific about where they are located. it has nothing to do with the state or city. also i dont know why you chose golden state i mean there are loads of other teams named after cities including la lakers and clippers infact in basketball probably most teams are named after cities
