well, I find this question to balance on a knife edge. I've seen statements from friends of mine that say "we're here, and we're queer" and my friends and I call each other fag all the time, mostly out of playful jest. I persoanlly dont find it offensive if it's coming from a gay person, and or not used derrogatory. It I believe it just depends on who you are with and such.

Yeah, to me it's the same idea as black people calling themselves "nigga", it's sort of insane. Like, alright, it's not okay if someone else calls me this, but if you're calling me it...that's fine. I dunno.

Minorities often combat hatred by taking ownership of the threatening words used against them.

Better they call themselves that, at least it is accurate... than 'Gay" That means Happy!...I saw nothing wrong with Homo's and Lesbians and Chicks with Dicks...it was easy to understand.

If you can make fun of yourself then you are a great person, so why not have a pop at yourself?

don't understand it at all, just like black people calling each other the N-word. now i'm of mixed race but mostly black and if another black person called me that i would feel the same as if a white person said it. and would smack them up side the head with a rolled up lead pipe.
