When it comes to "spiritual teachings", the purpose of sex is to have children -- all other kinds of sex are for self gratification, and cause attachments to *worldly* pleasures. Therefore, most spiritual teachers disapprove of sex solely for the sake of pleasure. (More liberal teachers think it is okay to have sex with a life partner, those same liberals tend not to care what gender your partner is so long as the sex is a symbol of commitment. Still more liberal teachers think sex should be an act of devotion to god, they ritualize it, and counsel you not to engage in sex if you become attached to your partner.) The problem is that some spiritual teachers urge they're devotees to actively work to change a nation's laws so that the nation is more "godly", they think god will look kindly upon a nation that is more devoted. The bible is full of stories about how God defends the righteous. Indeed, some people blamed 9/11 on America's immorality.

has anyone else noticed that the only people who are supposed to follow the old testament law are gay people? why? are we holier than straight people? can we fulfill the law when even the so called holy ones of our age can't. for 1500 years these people have set the standard of who is righteous. how long shall we be willingly ruled by hypocrites and fools? i find it ironic that the lord never once said anything against gay people but did repeatitly condemn the Pharisees. obviously he must have considered the Pharisees a much bigger threat.

No, it does not harm anyone unless they are persacuted and harrassed for it. The only reason God had a problem with it is because man says he does.

I asked a similar one awhile ago, removing the religious aspect completely, and not a single person could provide a logical, non-religious reason to object to homosexuality. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/483270 This is not the same as your question because you have included God in yours but it might provide some entertainment.

homosexuality harms no one. bigots don't understand why we are gay, and come up with all kinds of lies, assumptions and stereotypes to "prove" it. God created and loves us all. He doesn't disapprove of us...He disapproves of those who hate in His name.
-
simple answer is it doesn't!.... factual answer it doesn't.... sane answer it doesn't.... logical answer it doesn't ... the right answer it doesn't ... take you pick but they all end up exactly the same ...it doesn't!!
-
because how can the churches keep people under their thumbs. Also with all the scandal, venting people away from them onto us lets them cover their tracks un noticed
-
It doesn't. The only reason its bad that anyone can come up with that doesn't have to do with religion is, "Eww" Hardly an argument.

This answer is going to be related to the Bible, but not just "it says so", so I hope that counts. Most of the restrictions on sex, eating, washing and etc are related to purity and creation. The idea is that God created us to be pure or "clean". There were washing laws not only for sanitary reasons (although those are good reasons) but because it represented being pure/clean before God. There were laws regarding sex - not having it outside a marriage, and not having anything except one opposite-gender spouse (most of which were bent and broken many times over, but that doesn't change the laws/ideas) to represent purity and us having only one God, as having only one spouse, and having a commitment, and filling the purity of how God created us. There were laws about food and what was "clean" and "unclean" (which were adjusted to reflect the changed reality of redemption instead of in the New Testament). Generally, the whole thing illustrated the contrast between the purity of God and fallen man. Homosexuality is only a small part of that contrast.

First, I believe that some may say God may disapprove of homosexuality because the act of sex is meant for procreation. However, if that were the case, then why does the satisfying act of sex release such good chemicals and hormones in our body. It is proven that a healthy sex life leads to other aspects of health in our lives. That said, I don't think that God hates homosexuals. I believe that God is a loving God and loves us all, whether we conduct ourselves in a manner pleasing to him or not. In the times that the bible was written, there was little understanding of why homosexuality existed. In other ancient and non-Christian cultures, homosexuality was practiced openly and often associated with wealthy and "hedonsitic" behavior. Alot of what was written in the bible was to attack those cultures. Also, alot of what was written in the bible was to try to protect society from ills that could not be cured. It was known that sexual promiscuity, both hetero and homo, spread disease. So, that may have been an attempt to curb that. Does it harm anyone? No. What it harms is some people's ideals of how others should be. It makes the scared that the world is not what they thought it was supposed to be. It makes the worried that their lifestyle and the culture they know will be taken over by all things "different" and they attack ANYTHING and all things that are "different".

it only harms them when the fact of a heterosexual harrasses them and I don't feel God loves us any less. God disapproves alot of things, like violence, and things , so I don't think homosexuality is any different

Who is to say if God disapproves of it? Sure, the bible may say so, but if you look into the history of the bible, then you find that it was put together from various stories while many other stories were burned and not allowed into it. That being said, many people still hold the bible as a book of faith and who is to deny them that? I'm not sure of your religious beliefs, but with the way the bible was made it's not god's words, but the words of peoples interpretations of god's words. So, this means that the ruling power at the time chose certain things to put into what is now the modern day bible and left certain things out. I guess what I am trying to get at is who knows what god believes is right or wrong. Most people lead their lives with their own view of faith and if you don't believe that god disapproves of homosexuality, then that is fine.

There are no reasons against it aside of the Bible. If not for that, then people would not have problems with it because society wouldn't have a foundation against it.
-
NOT TRUE! God dissaproves of it because the true miracle and gift of life is a baby! And you cant reproduce with a person of the same sex! (unless you, you know!) And if God wanted free loving he would make two people called "Adam and Steve or Tina and Eve". But he didnt he made 2 people named "ADAM AND EVE"! which is Man and Woman! It doesnt harm anyone! It is just sin against the lord!

Because it is without "natural affection" and is contrary to the designs and purposes of God - especially in that little children, who need to come to this earth, can only do so through unnatural means. Secondly, young ones need the type of guidance that can only be had through both a mother and father. Third, little ones need the benefit of being comfortable with both sexes in intimate/responsible relations - knowing how to learn from and work with their own sex, but be intimate with the opposite. Fourth, the average homo lives little beyond their 40's. There must be some natural function in place for that to happen. Fifth, most homosexual relations are very short-lived as against hetero: the home, by comparison, is more unstable. [Generality, of course] Sixth: It will permit public scenes and environments that will make the bulk of people feel very uncomfortable around: if homosexuals want to display their 'affections', let them do so privately. Seventh: the great bulk of these relationships were initiated with the prime concern being ready physical gratification. God's desire is that relationships between men and women are primarily built upon the attraction of love Between the sexes. Eigth: Homosexuality and feminism are the prime factors ruining the world's economies, and causing a loss of jobs through a lowering of the basic economic demand that drives economies in the primary and secondary sectors - by not having children. Children are who provide work for adults. Ninth: Available Jobs are also lost as both partners will want to work: there are not enough jobs in the limited economy for Dual incomesin every home; so someone with a big family is missing out. Tenth: the natural loss of spirituality that comes to those who lock themselves into this kind of behaviour and situation - which, in turn, can only be bad for the public. I mean ... we could go on all day: COULDN'T WE???

Denidowi... half of your arguments are illegitimate, and I would explain why, but I believe Polar Aurorae has already given near to the same retort as I would have given. You my friend, are tardeder than a tard and your economics make absolutely no sense.

God disapproves of it because it was not his intent. Nature should tell you that as men cannot have babies. You take the case in sodom and most of this city was not just homosexual but very perverse and violent people eluding to the perversion of nature. Their are different stories and situations I am sure, but as to harm anyone? Speaking in general of sexual things, you have the natural side and you have the perverse side. Do perverted people harm anyone? If not, do they not harm themselves? Their heart, their thoughts ? I have to agree with Anonymous that their are a lot of resources out there explaining more of the why question. Whatever the case, Gods love is there, Jesus His Son was crucified for our wrongs, we really have wronged God which we know why by the law, and come to help and bring healing to us and to take part in the resurrection of the dead with all the believers. I hope that its an honest question you ask. I know at least 2 people who have been homosexuals and now living for God. They may still have temptations but you will have to ask them more. If you question if its wrong after the very fact of nature, sexual diseases, medical problems, and if you want to void all biblical notion, which is the most valid and crucial wisdom and knowledge one can have, then how can an answer be given to non-listening ears ? The creator himself has put in us right and wrong. Dont murder, dont commit Adultery, dont steal, etc. Is there not guilt? Though if someone practices something enough our conscience gets dulled. Why ask a question about God and not accept Gods written and inspired word which he promises to keep pure as a valuable answer ?
