    Long answer, and only given because if his memory had been erased I would have been happier: Basically, Aunt May was dying. The devil appeared to Peter and his wife, MJ, and said that if they traded their marriage, he would make sure Aunt May didn't die. Both of them agreed to it- so it's not memory, it's actually that the devil changed time to make sure the wedding never happened. All to make comics more accessible. Yeah, I don't get it either.
