If you can still get into QB, open it, go to "Help", and then "About Quickbooks" at the bottom of the menu. That page shows all the relevant numbers, including the Key Code. The key code is also in the Windows registry, assuming QB was properly installed. If you're nervous about the using the registry, it's understandable, but if you don't change anything, you'll be fine. Go to Start>Run. Type in regedit, click OK. Once you're in the registry, navigate to: MyComputer HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Intuit. (AB wouldn't accept the backslash key, for whatever reason) Click on the "+" at the left side of "Intuit" to expand. Look for the "QuickBooksRegistration" folder and expand it. You should see a numbered folder; in my case, it's "10", but yours may be different. Click on that folder, and in the right pane on your screen, under "Name", look for "InstallNumber". That number is the key code you're looking for. Don't use the "Registration Number". My QB is QBPro 2002, and the key code is a series of random numbers - three five-digit and one six digit sequence, including zero - no letters - just like this: 12295-50443-35430-621486. Remember, different QB versions may have a different coding scheme. If you need help, send me an email (address on profile page) and I'll be glad to try. Good luck!
