His father was in the military and his family spent a lot of time overseas. While in Germany, he learned how to play basketball. He probably didn't get much exposure to other American sports. My ex-husband's family was stationed in Germany and they played a lot of basketball and soccer. And they only had 1 TV station on base. Shaq probably found that he was good at basketball and he certainly has the height for it, so he probably stuck with it.

What other sports could he possibly play at his size other than that fake wrestling crap? He is too tall to be on the line for a football team. He's definitely not fast enough to be in the backfield. He could probably do a little sumo wrestling but I don't think thats his style.
