Most cities in Louisiana have some kind of Mardi Gras celebration. I will be going to Lockport this Mardi Gras weekend. There is also a similar celebration in South America and in the Caribbean called Carnival. I've been to Mardi Gras in Houma, New Orleans, Lockport, New Iberia, Alexandria, and Lafayette. All these places are in Louisiana.

I've seen footage of St. Louis' Mardi Gras celebration on YOUTUBE and i cant see how you can compare the two. People travel from all over the U.S. and elsewhere to visit New Orleans at Mardi Gras time. True, St. Louis uses Mardi Gras decorations, drink beer, party, eat and dance but they dont have the same atmosphere as New Orleans has with its Southern hospitality, cajun and creole food, beignets,New Orleans music,Mardi Gras Indians, second line bands,(unique to New Orleans),jazz, praline candy, world famous French Quarter, endless parades(day and night)....Need i go on? Another thing: Mardi is celebrated in neighborhoods around the city of New Orleans, not just on parade routes. You'll never hear the slangs and pronunciations of words in St. Louis like you'll hear in New Orleans. So if you think St. Louis has the second largest Mardi Gras after New Orleans, check to see how many hotels are booked and airport traffic full of tourist coming to St. Louis at Mardi Gras time.

To redcatt63 is wearing a warmer COAT: i didn't mean to offend, i was a little defensive of my city! I would like to attend a Mardi Gras in St. Louis one day, after all, St. Louis is the home of my birth. I'm a native son. Been away too many years!

Check out Galvezton, texas' Mardi Gras footage on YOUTUBE. Their Mardi Gras is nearly similar to New Orleans'. I've never been. One big difference i noticed is, there is a charge to attend the Parade procession and if i'm not mistaken,it's in the neighborhood of $100.00 a head.

Correction! St. Louis is not the second largest Mardi Gras but Mobile Alabama is the second largest and the Birthplace of Mardi Gras. Mobile was the first Capitol of Louisiana before the Louisiana Purchase. If you have not experienced Mobile's Mardi Gras, then you cheat yourself out of a real awakening.
