Hi folks, don't know how much it cost you to have this repaired but mine was hefty. I called Saturn customer service to complain since it sounds like a recurring problem for many. They said that recalls start with complaints such as these and when a recall is issued, you will be reimbursed for cost of repair. Give them a call at 1-800-553-6000 to file your complaint. Will need your VIN number.

I had the same problem with my Ion3 and I was adviced that it could be something as simple as a fuse or the steering column. Your looking at anywhere between $90-$1000.00 at a dealer.

well, i am also having the same problem. My Ion will give me that stupid little PWR STEER message or whatever it is and then my steering wheel locks up. I have to turn my car off and than back on for it to work again. And it just depends on the cars mood that day if it wants to act up and how many times it wants to mess w you in one day. haha. Its very scattered.... I brought it to the saturn dealership and they said that I will only have to change the steering rack ...not the whole coloum. Its a new way of doing it so check it out. Its still about 360 bucks but its better than 1000. It could also be as simple as a blown fuse. check the fude block under hood. <3 hope this helps

It means your looking at a whole lot of money to fix it....we have a 2006 Saturn Ion that the power steering light message comes on and then you have no power steering....for no reason...this was a special coverage item that no one will cover.....it is a known problem...good luck....I haven't had any!!!!!

I also have a 2005 Saturn Ion and am having the exact same problem. Sounds like Government Motors f/k/a General Motors has made a command decision to try to not issue a recall on the Saturn for an almost identical problem that is occurring on the Cobalt. Everyone call GM and NHTSA to complain. This proble is too common.

Just registered my own complaint with Saturn customer service re: my 2005 Saturn Ion with just 60,000 miles on it. A problem of this magnitude and cost on so many low-mileage vehicles is unacceptable. I plan on making noise about this. Please keep up the pressure. We won't buy GM again unless this is recalled and fixed

You should call Saturn at 1-800-553-6000. They have issued a "special coverage bulletin" (No. 10187) that covers the cost of this repair for this year (and maybe others -- I am not sure). You just have to arrange it through Saturn and take the vehicle to an authorized Saturn dealer (which they can locate for you). I have to give Saturn credit, as the person on their assistance line was really helpful, conferencing me through to a nearby dealer and making sure the appointment was made without any trouble.

I was told the coverage bulletin will cover models for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

There is a recall for the power steering in the 2006 Ions. You can take it to a Chevy dealership or any other service department that works on Ions. Be certain to tell them about the recall, it will be fixed for free. You can also call Saturn for more info.

What you need to do is file a complaint with Saturn and the NHTSA. I spoke to saturn about this cause mine went out in March the same day the Chevy cobalt issued a recall for the same problem. Both cars share similar mechanisms. SAturn told me to post this cause the more complaints they get, then they will issue a recall.
