    Legally, no.
But if you have to work, you have to work.
Do whatever it takes to survive.

The court system knows this, so they do accommodate people who obviously MUST drive to keep their job and be a productive member of society. It's very common to talk to the judge and arrange a permit - to drive only between work and home during commuting hours.

There are lots of people who drive on a suspended license anyways. If they catch you:
    1) In California, the fine for driving on susp.lic. is about $500.
    2) They impound the car, costs about $400 to get it back.
    3) Only a friend who has a valid license and insurance can go get the car.
    4) It automatically suspends your license for a whole year, after that.
    5) Without a valid license, your insurance become invalid, so don't bother paying insurance anymore.

These are not terrible, dire consequences. It's about one tenth as bad as a DUI. You can still survive and make ends meet. There's no jail time or community service involved, and you don't even show up in court. But a suspended license is a warning sign - If you want a decent life, you gotta get your act together.

People who have their license suspended generally DO keep driving. I know several people in that situation, but they drive super-carefully for a whole year until they get their license back. And if you get caught twice, the penalties are about twice as bad the second time.

If you do choose to go to court, go with a friend or park several blocks away. They will hear about 30 cases in a row, all with suspended licenses, and as they finish each case, the judge often asks a sheriff to spy on the person out into the parking lot. They typically catch several people driving away, right in the courthouse parking lot.

That's the information. What you do with it is up to you.

You have to go to traffic court and speak to a judge. Depending on the circumstances, they sometimes give authorization to drive to work but it can only be granted by a judge and there is an official document you are given that states when and where you are allowed to drive. If you don't have one of those and you get caught driving, you're in deep doo doo.

Varies from state to state but, generally, if you have a suspended license, unless you have a judge's permission, you may not drive anywhere unless it's an absolute necessity such as a medical emergency.

Sometimes a judge will allow that, but don't just assume it's ok to drive to school and work if he/she doesn't specify that it is permitted.

You can't drive anywhere until you either get a restricted license or take off the suspension.

Nope. And if you get nailed driving on a suspended lic. It's your ass. However, if you need to drive to school or work, you can plead your case in front of a judge. Maybe they'll let you drive exclusively to those places.

You can apply for a "Restricted Driver's License" in the state of California. I don't know about other states.

You need to apply for a hardship license, which would give you the right to drive to work and school, and possibly in an emergency situation. Go to the county clerk's office and ask how you can get that done. You may not be able to, because some states you have to ask for that as a part of your guilty plea for whatever charge that you license was suspended for.
