  • Any one of them that interests you will do all that you have specified. My favorite for Women is Judo (The Gentle Way) because it does not require a lot of upper body strenght.
  • ... have you considered Wing Chun (an art developped by small Chinese women ... ... or Aikido or JuJitsu, if you prefer Japanese (or Brazilian).
  • Wing Chun, is perfect for women, it was invented by them. lol wing chun does not rely on strength, it uses something called forward energy, its the secret of the one inch punch, i won't give too much away, lol you can find out for your self. aikido, jiu jutsu and ninjutsu are also good because they all rely on natural body movement.
  • Check out Krav-Maga. Developed by the Israelis, it's very effective. You build confidence and cardio at the same time. JV http://www.muscle-fitness-training.com
  • Kickboxing is an "easy" martial art compared to Asian arts because it doesn't involve many complicated techniques just basic karate and boxing moves and its perfect for cardiovascular exercise
  • Just to confuse you more, I used to run a sombo school for women. It is nice MA for women.
  • Taekwondo, Jujutsu, or Judo should work... Hope this helps... :D
  • There are any number of good choices. Judo is good since it's competitive, but the sport aspects are easily transferrable to some self-defence. The competitive aspect means you'll be able to test yourself against resisting opponents, which is always a good thing. Krav Maga is another good choice, and so are Sombo and Ju-Jutsu. Filipino Martial Arts are also good to train in as a general rule. Muay Thai/Muay Boran are also good, and the training is usually tough.
  • advracer - Are you as blind as you are thick? I said that size matters - it matters LESS on the ground. You seem to have difficulty grasping the basics of English sentence structure and vocabulary. I think your difficulty with the language is shown in your response. The poster asked for "a" martial art. That's singular, not plural, in case you missed that. Bad, Grasshopper - back to the car lot with you!
  • Sorry, but if the "start signal" is a beer bottle to the back of your head - if the person has any idea how to use it and you aren't part bovine - you're screwed, no matter WHAT your training. Same with martial arts vs. knife - if you're up against a well trained, experienced knife fighter - it really won't matter what your training is. He has a HUGE advantage and will kill you. Doubly so if you don't know he has it.
  • id say kickboxing theres generally a great atmosphere and everyone is welcomed. its a great way to get fit, meet new people and gain confidence.
  • I'm taking Kempo and its really fun and doing all of the things you listed.
  • I would suggest Wing Chun, this is a practical Martial Art designed by a nun, with simplistic moves and techniques; It has the ability to be very extreme and very direct for a women of any stature, to aid her with tools of self defence. demo video
