Hi kathy, certain aspects of tibetan buddhism has mysticism deeply engraved. I dont know in great detail as I myself a theravada buddhist. But have read that tibetan monks have various powers and abilities that other 2 schools of buddhism does not bring up.Hope this helps.

No - not at all. As Babyghost correctly state, there are stories going around that the Tibetans are on to something of the kind. But in this case it is important to remember that Tibetan Buddhism is a mix of the shamanistic Bön, Vajrayana buddhism and some yoga branch I can´t remember the name of right now. The Buddhistic element of Tibetan buddhism is not very visible. As for Theravada itself, the answer is no. Read up on the three desires, and you will see, that gaining supernatural powers is one of the desires. We simply don´t need supernatural powers to function in life. we don´t need a God either. This is one of the unique things about the practise - we learn to be fully independent.
