My Nakamichi 480z tape recorder doesn't record correctly - all you hear after making a recording are low level buzzes. What could be wrong?

Clean and demagnetize the heads. If that doesn't make a difference - and I have my doubts it will - you will either need to get it professionally serviced or bribe a very good friend who is technically skilled and has a service manual for that model. This model was introduced 25 years ago and is quite elderly in audio terms. It has probably died a horrid death.
