  • If I had my way senior citizens would not pay ANY tax, they have done thier bit, and payed more than enough. :-)
  • Yes, they benefit from an educated workforce just like anyone else. The idea that seniors shouldn't pay any taxes can't work. If you exempted 50% of the workforce there would be no schools, no fire departments, no police departments, no national defense. If you want to cut tax bills, cut needless spending. Socio-welfare entitlement programs need to be curtailed
  • I am delighted to pay taxes to help educate children, all children. Educating children is in the best interest of the community, and if I wish to have educated people on, oh, say, the police department and fire department in the future, I will want them to have opportunities to learn what they'll need to know to get there.
  • Nobody should pay school taxes ! People with kids should pay "Baby Sitting Taxes" on their own kids !
  • I guess it is like asking should young people pay SS tax when the system may be bankrupt when they retire.
  • It's one of those things about being a home-owner. I don't think seniors should have to pay taxes, or should at least qualify for a reduced rate. So many older people just can't afford to stay in the home they have worked their entire life to pay for with rising taxes and insurance premiums. But if home-owners don't pay for education, who will?
  • I MADE A CHOICE to sacrifice and sent 4 grandchildren to private schools as I find public school education to be sub-standard for many reasons of which I won't expound on here. That choice did not put me in a position of losing my home which I, NOT THE GOVERNMENT, paid for over a period of many years. But guess what? The truth of the matter is I DO NOT OWN anything! Home ownership does not exist!!!!! I am still paying for the house I live in on a yearly basis in the form of SCHOOL TAXES and PROPERTY TAXES and I have NO CHOICE regardless of the burden it might place on me. If I do not PAY what is laid down by LAW, THEY (?) will TAKE from me that which is supposedly mine. THE GOVERNMENT (nor the people who choose to have children) did not assist me in any way to pay for the education of my grandchildren and don't believe that I should be compelled to pay for the education or non-education of those that CHOOSE to overburden the system with multiple offspring nor should I be PUNISHED by losing my home for the decision not to pay. That being said, NO SENIORS nor people without children SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY SCHOOL TAXES. LONG LIVE DEMOCRACY
  • I don't think they have a choice. But I do know, if you pinch on kids today, they will punch you in the face tomorrow. So...here's hoping they all become productive citizens, as they will rule the world in 30-40 years..and I'll be at their mercy.
  • Yes, the in the same way that people who don't get sick pay for those that do. Or people who don't go to art galleries have their taxes used to fund an exhibition. Taxes are universal, since they are there to help everyone. If someone doesn't need a service, fine, but it still needs to be paid for. Share the love.
  • No. I think Warren Buffet is perfectly capable of paying his taxes.
  • Don't we pay for medicare?
  • No. Why would you? I am not a senior and don't have any kids - does that mean I am exempt from paying for increased school taxes?
  • Yes. In Texas there are a variety of significant property tax breaks that someone turning age 65 should use. Just search on this page for "65" and read all of them: http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/proptax/exmptns.html
