My husband make a giant round brownie tonight from scratch. I am so proud of him, he is quite a guy. I just had a piece and it was good. He used pecans instead of walnuts. Why in the world would you want to follow a recipe that calls for a mix? Be creative and start from scratch.

I do not see why not, so long as the weight (volume) is the same and the basic ingredients are the same. For example if your brownie mix has a certain amount of fat built into it then your cookie mix should be similar, else you may need to add a little Crisco or other fat to compensate.

You could substitute cookie mix for brownie mix and add a couple of tablespoons of coco powder, if you have some handy.

You guys are great~! Thank you for your help. To be more clear: I'm not trying to make brownies with a cookie mix; I'm trying to make cookie bars that call for using a packaged brownie mix. I want to know: can I substitue the brownie mix called for in the recipe (for a cookie base ingredient) with the packaged cookie mix I have in my pantry. (I'm out of brownie mix - whaaa) What do you think? And darn, I want the Sherriff's husband over here making me some of those goodies!

You're funny. Keep the brownies - (what with the price of gasoline and all)- my ride from Maine to NY to kidnap your husband would be so very pricey for me- hee hee~ You're funny. Nice talking with you. Donna from Maine.
