I never understood why people are split into groups to begin with. I have no idea what democrats or republicans are, to be honest with you! I don't know who is which, either. I don't pay any attention to that. How can a whole big group of people have ALL the same beliefs and principals? To me, it's saying all those people are identical in their thoughts, and I find that utterly ridiculous! I only look at what they've done in the past and if their past makes me believe that they'll do what they say they intend on.

Have a look at http://www.politicalcompass.org/ . Broadly speaking, this divides people into left/right, which is on financial/economic affairs, and liberal/conservative, which is on social affairs. For example, because you support low taxes and small government (right), you do not have to be against abortion and gay marriage (conservative). Because you support unions and high levels of social care (left) you do not have to support gun control and giving citizenship to immigrants (liberal).

what you are talking about is the different democartic traits. i'am sure you are aware of the political sphere of influence where as the on the very far right you get the nazis and on the extreme left, the communists. and in between you have the repulicans and the democrats, a liberal repulican still has all of the makings to be a republican,. and for a conservative democrat still runs under the umbrella of the democratic party, in the end they are first and for most a democrat, with some conservative qualities and the republican is still a republican with some liberal qualities they don't represent some new party its just a mention of some tendancies they have

It's very possible for example: A republican can be fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. But lets listen to Chris Rock here, he makes more sense than me.
