Great question. Personally I like (and like to give) unusual & bright colored TSA-approved locks and luggage tags. Also, there is a compact travel tool that weighs luggage up to 50 pounds which is important due to the airlines strict weight limits and stiff $$$ penalties on overweight luggage.
