  • There are four fundamental forces in nature. The Strong Nuclear The Weak Nuclear Electromagnetism Gravity This is the best we have for now although physicists are constantly striving for unification of the forces (such as the unification of electricity and magnetism) to create a more complete and simple model. Some people suggest other forces but these are not widely accepted. Particles have certain properties that "exert" force. E.g. an object may have mass and thus will interact via gravity or it may have charge and would interact via electromagnetism. If something does not interact with any of these forces it is nigh on impossible to measure so we would not know of them. If they do not interact with some sort of force then they are to all intents and purposes non existent. We measure changes in a particle's behaviour to see if a force is acting such as placing a particle in a magnetic field to see if it is influenced by the EM force. Very basic summary.
