Just an educated guess using my GM Powertrain experence. I would look a Trans fluid level or trans cooler problems. Is there anything blocking airflow through the radiators. Did a trans line get pinched somewhere. I think that as you drive the trans is getting too hot. When this happens the powertrain controller is going to first shift out of over drive (O/D) to speed up the flow of fluid through the trans. (The trans pump is driven at the engine input speed). It doesn't want to worry you so it doesn't turn on the light at first. Then when it warms up more, they finally turn on a warning light so you know you have a problem. Just an Idea..
