  • Yes. Or rather, they live in Oregon waters. Although many people think of leeches as warm water pests, there are some 650 different species of leeches and some are adapted for colder climates. There are marine leeches in the coastal waters as well as fresh water leeches in lakes and streams. However, I live in Oregon and have never encountered a leech, despite regularly visiting the ocean and various lakes and rivers.
  • yes leches live in oregon.we are trying to figure out what species they are from the cloumbia river at mayer state park.my nephew brought back some eggs that he thought were frog eggs and they hatched into a bunch of little leeches.
  • Yes. This has all been within the last 2 years, and I've never seen a leech before this, anywhere in Oregon. I've been active in Oregon waters as long as I can remember. I have found several dead leeches, as well as 2 live ones at Alton Baker park in Eugene in the Willamette River. Also found one dead one in the Willamette at Clearwater park in Springfield. Also I have found one live leech at Harvest boat ramp in Springfield, in the McKenzie River. They all appear to be the same species, but I'm no biologist. They are a dark brown to black color with a lighter, slightly transparent underside, long and skinny with about a hundred stripes that give the appearance of segments. The ones I've found range from approximately 2" long to over 5" long. The 2 longest ones I found were dead.
