What about the negatives?

i don't see too many downsides - the account is scored after the fact and is not shared with the patient. The score just determines the odds of recovering the amount due. the healthcare group can also use this score to determine fraudulent activity

Do you think that medical providers may treat patients differently, based on whether or not they believe the patients can pay their bills? Will patients be turned away because of low medical FICO scores?
by Carrot and Stick on January 18th, 2008
By law they can not deny life saving services due to inability to pay. The service will not be effected at all.
It is the account getting scored, not the patient. And after the patient is long gone. Hospitals have a HUGE problem with write offs and have trouble managing their A/R. This score will allow the hospital to figure out what to do with the account: Do they send it to a collection agency early or not at all, do they write it off immediately, is it fraud? It is all about managing back end finances. This is something the financial world did 30 years ago and the medical world is just now looking at it.

That sounds comforting. Only time will tell how this will all pan out, in the end.
