Viking gas cooktop has brown buildup around burner - how do I clean the area - I heard about using oven cleaner and leaving it set for about two hours. Any other suggetions or have you used this and it works?

  I have foil melted to the bottom of my convection oven. I am afraid to use the self-cleaning mechanism, because it is foil and not food. I have tried baking soda and water, and vinegar and water. Still some residual. Any other suggestions?
