When tying a string around a mole to cut off circulation, how long will it usually take for the mole to fall off? Mine is sore after just two days.

GO TO THE DOCTOR!!! Who comes up with these stupid ideas? You do realize that some moles are a symptom of skin cancer right?

- I just went to my primary physician and he said my moles were not cancerous and to tie a string around them to get rid of them. He didnt say for how long though.

- Are you sure the idea is stupid? Over the years I have had issue with a mole on my backside and received this advice from two different doctors. I was told that the size color and shape of the mole did not raise any concerns and that I could have it removed if I chose, but, could also tie it off and save myself the $150 for cost of removal and could avoid the scarring that would incurred from the removal

I don't recommend removing a mole by tying a string around it, you can do that to a skin tag without any pain, but a mole can be deeper than you think. Please untie the string and see your Primary Care Physician or dermatologist for removal.

According to my grandmother, this was a common thing back in the old days. I had a mole on my back that the doctor looked at and said it was nothing and I could scrape it right off. It was out of my reach and I thought it would hurt too much to scrape it so a friend tied a string around it. It turned black and fell off in about 2.5-3 days. Had a little bit of a scab for a couple of days, picked it off and now it's just a pink flat area on my back. I did use peroxide throughout the process to help it heal without infection.
