My Win98SE machine uses a cable modem, but it keeps disconnecting after 8 minutes. Rebooting re-establishes the connection, but only for another 8 minutes. What could be wrong?

I want to Install Windows XP over 98. I put in the disc when 98 was running, tried to install and then in the middle of installation the computer restarts. Afterwards I go back into Windows, and I run Setup again, and the whole process restarts. Help Plz!

USB support wasn't really implemented fully and correctly until XP, at least not in any Microsoft OS polished enough to want to run.
