Why don't kids these days respect the social advances of the sixties and seventies? They act as if the fifties were the Golden Era.

    I'm fourteen, just to let you know i complteely agree.
    No one respects that fact that we wouldn't be anywhere if it weren't for the social advances in the past.
    I respect it though.

    Because the kids today can't really see the big picture. The advances made in the fifties overall were leaps and bounds over those made in the sixties and seventies...those decades were more refinements of that which the fifties brought on.
    While I think the fifties were a fairly good era...the refinements made in the sixties and seventies are far and away the greater achievements.

    Because funding for public education has gone so far down the tubes that they still show those old black and white sex ed and biology videos in class.

    They generally mirror and model what they learn in the home. Their folks must be stuck in that time period, so that is the time period they hold up as a "shining time". Now, if they model accountability, respect for self and others, kindness and value being civil and polite, I'd say that would be great. Somehow I don't think that's what you're talking about! :)
