The above answer is correct. There is no one person credited for discovering Mars. Since Mars is bright in the night sky, it has been observed since the dawn of Man.

Mars is much like Venus-- it's very bright and therefore easily spotted in the night sky. Because of this, we don't know who exactly discovered Mars.

Well, I think it was recorded by the Romans, as it named after a Roman (or is it a Greek) God. But as Mars is visible in the night sky, it may be that it was 'discovered' before recorded history.
