How do hawks get their prey? Do they kill it while they get it on the ground or carry it off and kill it?

They have very long sharp talons that can kill some prey as soon as they get 'hit' from a swoop out of the skies. Or one squeeze and a small rodent is killed. Some larger things may need talons and their sharp beak. But usually it's just those talons. There is a very good reason that handlers wear those thick leather gloves. We used to have a red-tailed hawk and a great hornd owl. They are SHARP!
