How are american idol contestants screened?

    You have to pass through a series of auditions, if you get past the first then you go on to another untill eventually you would make it to the show. That is why when they show people that arn't good infront of the 3 main judges, those singers have been passed through other auditions to get there. All so the world can laugh at them I guess
