  • A regular passport should do you fine unless there are special circumstances regarding your country's status, as you may have an issue from specific countries like Iraq, Iran, or North Korea, etc. Driving a rental should be okay with a foreign license as well, but I would call the rental car company to ensure you don't need anything else. Outside of that you will have no issue traveling state to state, but be advised that most US rental car companies won't allow their vehicles to enter Mexico, just in case you were thinking about heading south as well.
  • A passport will always be required to travel into the USA and an international drivers license would be your best method of securing a rental car.
