its not stealing. its acquiring. and the clerk just made a 20 dollar mistake. sounds wretched i know, but gas is expensive these days, and my dogs gotta eat too.

How come this never happens to me? I always get home and find out the teenager who bagged my groceries forgot to put the 50 lb bag of dog food into my cart! :o(

It depends on how far the store is. I may not return right then and there, but I would probably mention it on my next trip to the store, or at least make a phone call. I really try to watch as they scan things to make sure that I didn't get mischarged for something or that something didn't get overloooked. I really can't imagine a 50lb. bag of dog food being overlooked though. I can imagine a much smallert item though.

In the above case just in case you are wondering, yes, I returned to the store, went to customer service and explained what had happened. I then paid for the bag and went back to the house.
-
I would have to pay for it. To not pay is stealing. I might call them to let them know, especially if I couldn't get back that day as town is very far for us. But I would want the clerk who checked us out, not to get in trouble for it. Most people don't know that it's the cashiers and clerks who usually ave to make up for mistakes in their cash drawer. If things don't come out right with what they have pulled off the register, then they are required to pay the difference, not the company. So it's not hurting the company, it's hurting people that don't make that much money. But even if it was from the company I would never do it because it is wrong, even if a mistake was made. Mistakes don't make wrong things right.
-
Nope. If the clerk made the mistake, I wouldn't go back. If I realized I had left a store without paying for something I would go back and pay for it.
-
I'd staple the UPC code from the bag to my receipt, and next time I went to the store go to the service desk, explain and pay. This actually happened to me around New Year's, but it wasn't with dog food.
-
Neither. I would have a dog block party, my treat, and make my dog share the good fortune that has come his way.
-
I would return and pay for the bag.
